Childbirth Preparation Series—Lamaze

This class is offered once a week over a 5-week time span in two hour increments. The class provides in-depth, detailed information covering the following areas:

  • Lamaze childbirth techniques (breathing, relaxation and massage)
  • The different types of childbirth options available
  • How to become more confident about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • Making informed decisions about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • What the processes are within a hospital setting
  • When and how to get support
  • Pain management

This class is ideal for first time parents who are available weeknights between 6:30-8:30 pm. Refreshments will be provided as well as a tour of the maternity unit following the third class of the series.

The best time to take this class is at the beginning of your third trimester (26–28 weeks).


Childbirth Refresher Workshop

This class is offered as a one-time workshop. The class covers the following:

  • Lamaze childbirth techniques (breathing, relaxation and massage)
  • Making informed decisions about labor, childbirth, breastfeeding and newborn care
  • What the processes are within a hospital setting
  • When and how to get support
  • Pain management

This class is ideal for parents who have already taken a childbirth preparation class and are looking for a refresher course. First time parents are encouraged to take the Childbirth Preparation Series.

The best time to take this class is at the beginning of your third trimester (26–28 weeks).

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

This is a one-session class for expectant parents. We cover the most important breastfeeding techniques, how to prevent and identify problems, pumping and milk storage, and many more topics of interest to the group. Couples are encouraged to come together. The Prenatal Breastfeeding Class is a two to three hour-long class.


Newborn Care Preparation Workshop

This is a one-session, two to three hour-long class for expectant parents. Couples are encouraged to come together. Topics include:

  • Newborn senses
  • General care
  • Holding and burping
  • Tummy time
  • Baby’s temperature
  • Diapering and changing
  • Umbilical cord care
  • Circumcision care
  • Daily hygiene
  • Bathing
  • Growth and development
  • Baby basics (first three months)

Newborn Safety Preparation Workshop

This is a one-session, two to three hour-long class for expectant parents. Couples are encouraged to come together. Topics include:

  • Getting your home ready
  • Keeping baby safe
  • Feeding choices
  • Colicky baby
  • Soothing your baby
  • Back to sleep
  • SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
  • Shaken baby syndrome
  • Baby’s warning signs
  • Car seat guidelines
  • Finding a pediatrician
  • Immunizations
  • Infant CPR (under one year of age)
  • Infant choking (under one year of age)

We highly recommended registering yourselves and your baby’s caregiver in the Infant CPR class. 


Infant CPR

The purpose of this two to three hour-long single class course is to teach you how to perform CPR on an infant who is younger than one year. It is based on the American Heart Association’s Friends and Family CPR curriculum. Couples are encouraged to come together as well as register your baby’s caregiver for this class.

Please note: We advise that women do not take this Infant CPR Class late in their pregnancy because of the strenuous breathing exercises that are required in learning techniques.


Daddy Training Camp

Being a dad can be one of the most rewarding, yet overwhelming experiences in your life. This class is open to all dads. It is an open discussion format that gives dads a chance to share their experience and advice. Discussions and demonstrations address:

  • Bonding with your new baby
  • Balancing your career and your role as a new parent
  • Ensuring a solid relationship with your partner
  • Creating a strong support system for the new mom

Sibling Workshop

Becoming a big sister or big brother is an exciting time for children. This one-session class is for children ages 2 to 8 and up and helps children understand their role in their expanding family. Presented in a fun, age-appropriate way, topics will include how to safely look, listen, smell, touch and talk to the newborn.


Grandparents Preparation Workshop

Grandparents play an important role in the lives of their newborn grandchildren. This one-session workshop covers the role of the grandparent, as well as communication skills, relaxation techniques and basic family dynamics and boundaries. Aunts and uncles are also welcome and encouraged to attend this class.
